Ron Beitel described this as a Model 7 from 1987 and said the valves are still airtight. He wrote that the only auditions he ever won were on one of these horns built shortly after this one. This particular instrument had belonged to Alan DeMattia and was later sold to a friend of his; Ron eventually bought it through Ken Pope. He noted that it needed a new flare, so he had the bell cut, and said it still plays beautifully. Even if he does not get to play at home as often as he would like, he wrote that this is the horn he reaches for each time.
